How soft enamel pins are made?
Soft enamel is the most common technique for making lapel pins or metal badges. The pins / metal badges pins are knocked out of a mold, then colorfull enamel fillings are poured into the stamped recesses parts of the metal. The metal raised metal parts act as a wall to hold the enamel fillings.
Then they are baked at a high temperature. The edges/raised metal parts separating the colors are galvanized/electroplated. You will feel the relief surface of the pins. The result is a pin or pin with a 3D look and vibrant colors.
Materials of lapel pins
The most common materials for making lapel pins are copper, iron, stainless steel, zinc alloy, aluminum and PVC.
- Copper: Copper is a somewhat soft material and is suitable for the manufacture of lapel pins(eg for hard enamel pins, 3D medals) with clear and fine lines.
- Iron and stainless steel are, compared to copper, hard material and more cost effective. Iron is most commonly used for soft enamel pins and stainless steel for full-color metal printed pins.
- Zinc alloy is used for pins made by an injection molding process. They are most commonly used for double-sided medals, coins and lapel pins with sharp shapes. It is cost effective with high quanitity and it gives a better 3D effect.
- Aluminum is most commonly used for the production of printed pins.
